Surrogacy
A woman bears and gives birth to a child on behalf of another person or couple using the assisted reproduction technique known as surrogacy. The woman bearing the child is referred to as the surrogate mother or gestational carrier in a surrogacy arrangement, while the intended parent or parents are typically referred to as the intended parents or commissioning parents.
In vitro fertilization (IVF)
An egg is fertilized with sperm outside the body, in a laboratory dish, during in vitro fertilization (IVF), a kind of assisted reproductive technology (ART). Then, the fertilized egg, or embryo, is sent to the uterus where it will hopefully grow and lead to a healthy pregnancy.
